McKenzie Certified Spinal Specialists

Stover Physical Therapy specializes in an approach known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), or The McKenzie Method.  MDT is the most researched and supported form of spinal therapy currently available.  MDT enables the skilled clinician to classify the patients disorder and develop a specific individualized treatment program.  The aproach emphasizes patient education and participation in the managment of their condition.  The skills and experience aquired by the patient during the treatment process enables the development of a long term preventive program.  In the hands of a credentialed clinician(Cert. MDT), MDT has been proven to be diagnostic, prognostic, therapeutic, and preventive.  In the Oklahoma City metro area their are currently 6 Physical Therapists who are credentialed in MDT.  Don Stover was the first in the OKC area to become credentialed in MDT.

Board Certified Orthopaedic Physical Therapists
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), a national professional organization representing more than 77,000 members throughout the United States, established the specialist certification program in 1978. Specialization is the process by which a physical therapist builds on a broad base of professional education and practice to develop a greater depth of knowledge and skills related to a particular area of practice.  The specialist certification program was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience, and skills in a special area of practice and to assist consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists.
In Oklahoma their are currently 2,040 Physical Therapists licensed to practice in the state.  Of those 2,040 Physical Therapists  29 have achieved board certification in Orthopaedics (OCS).   1 of those 29 Physical Therapists practice here at Stover PT.
